Big, rolling housekeeping carts are disappearing from many hotel hallways, just like the floral polyester linens they used to carry. Hotels say they're replacing cumbersome carts with smaller ones sometimes akin to golf caddie bags out of necessity, in addition to convenience and even appearance. Among those saying goodbye to the hall-blocking carts: The Staybridge Suites Times Square in New York, The Ritz-Carlton in Charlotte and the Renaissance Charlotte SouthPark Hotel.

Nicotine residues and other chemical traces "don't stay in the smoking rooms," says Georg Matt, a psychologist from San Diego State University who led the study, published Monday in the journal Tobacco Control. "They end up in the hallways and in other rooms, including non-smoking rooms."
Early hoteliers participating in Expedia’s “hotel collect” platform—where guests reserve a room on Expedia but don’t pay until they check into the hotel—are reporting positive experiences. The program, introduced in July of last year, is officially called Expedia Traveler Preference because guests can choose whether to pay up front on Expedia or when they get to the hotel. The program was criticized early on by hotel owners and asset managers because of the potential to increase costs for hotel owners by way of additional training and credit-card processing fees.

The Resonance Report is a biennial study of the travel and leisure habits of affluent American households by Resonance Consultancy, a leading global travel and tourism consulting firm that monitors travel and leisure trends. The study, conducted in conjunction with the Luxury Institute in New York, surveys more than 1,200 individuals from households with incomes of $150,000 and higher every two years to measure their travel and leisure preferences and aspirations. These affluent households account for almost a third of all domestic spending on lodging and air travel, according to recent estimates in the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' Consumer Expenditures Survey.

Revel AC Inc. announced today that the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey (Camden) has confirmed Revel's prepackaged plan of reorganization (the "Plan") under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code. The Plan was unanimously accepted by creditors voting on the plan in connection with the Company's voluntary pre-packaged solicitation of votes. Revel expects to emerge from Chapter 11 before the end of May after the conditions to effectiveness of the plan are satisfied.
